IGCSE Maths Revision FAQs

Quick answers to the questions students and parents ask most.

What is the best way to revise for IGCSE Maths?

Start with your exam board and tier. Do a past paper to find your weak topics, then revise one topic at a time. Practise exam questions, mark them honestly, fix your mistakes, and test yourself again a few days later.

Am I doing Edexcel or Cambridge IGCSE Maths?

Check your school timetable, exam entry, or ask your teacher. Edexcel IGCSE Maths is 4MA1 with Foundation and Higher tiers. Cambridge IGCSE Maths is syllabus 0580 with Core and Extended papers.

What is the difference between Edexcel Foundation and Higher?

Foundation is for students aiming for grades 1 to 5. Higher is for grades 4 to 9, and you need Higher to reach grade 6 or above. Foundation is often the safer route if your main goal is to secure a pass.

What is the difference between Cambridge Core and Extended?

Core is for students aiming up to grade C, so the top grade you can get is a C. Extended covers the full range up to A*, so you need Extended if you are aiming for a B, A, or A*.

Which past papers should I use?

Use past papers for your exact exam board, syllabus, and tier. Do not mix Edexcel with Cambridge unless you are using questions only for extra practice. For exam preparation, stick to the papers you will actually sit.

Should I revise topics first or do past papers first?

Do one past paper or a short mixed test first. That tells you what is actually weak. Then revise those topics properly before doing more full papers. Doing paper after paper without fixing mistakes is a slow way to improve.

Should I do timed or untimed practice?

Start untimed when learning a topic. Once you understand the method, switch to timed practice. In the exam, a useful guide is about one minute per mark, but do not waste five minutes fighting one question. Move on and come back later.

What should I do the week before my IGCSE Maths exam?

Do not try to relearn the whole course. Review your mistake list, practise common topics, memorise key methods, check your calculator skills, and do a few timed sections. The aim is to be sharper, not exhausted.
