Edexcel Foundation GCSE Maths FAQs
Quick answers to the most common revision questions.
Start with one past paper first. Your mistakes show you which topics are costing you marks, so you can revise those instead of guessing where to start.
Number, Ratio, and Algebra together make up around 70% of the exam. Focusing on these three areas gives you the best chance of improving your grade quickly.
Both tiers can award a grade 5, but Higher goes up to grade 9. If you are confident at grade 5 and aiming for 6 or above, Higher is worth it. If grade 5 is your goal, Foundation is safer.
Start untimed so you can learn the method properly. Once you feel more confident, switch to timed practice so you can build speed and confidence.
Paper 1 (non-calculator). Most marks are lost on fractions, percentages and long multiplication, so practise these by hand and write out every step.
Edexcel is known for long, real-life contexts like shopping, recipes and travel. Underline the numbers and the actual question, then ignore the extra words while you work.
