Lexie Li, Co-Founder & COO of Maths Angel

Last updated 25 June 2026

Lexie Li is Co-Founder and COO of Maths Angel, where she leads product and design. She decides what Maths Angel builds and what it leaves out, with one test: does this help a stuck student faster? She maps the learning journey to the curriculum, and decides how ChatCat steps into a student's routine.

Who keeps Maths Angel simple and clear?

Lexie's job is to ask one question on every screen: is this actually clear for a student who is stuck right now? She refines every lesson script and oversees the student experience end to end. That matters because confusion compounds. A student who waits, or who meets a crowded screen, often gives up before the help arrives.

Real maths help should happen right when students need it the most, not hours later.

Maths Angel's promise is “5 seconds to get help, 5 minutes to understand”, and Lexie treats it as the company's DNA, the guiding principle behind every content and design decision. The aim is for a tired eleven-year-old to find their way around the page and get unstuck, without anyone explaining how it works first.

What Lexie does day to day

Every day, Lexie works on the details most students never notice. She picks the exact words used in each lesson, and she decides the right moment for ChatCat, the AI maths tutor at the heart of Maths Angel, to step in and help. A single lesson video already takes around 100 hours to make, and her job is to make sure all those hours actually leave a stuck student clearer. Each lesson follows the same simple format:

  • One concept per video, kept to three or four minutes
  • An expert-written script, fully animated
  • Practice questions at different difficulty levels
  • Flashcards for visual revision
  • Interactive practice to master each method until it clicks
  • AI help from ChatCat right next to the lesson

Behind every lesson runs a closed learning loop: diagnose, explain, practise, track, then recommend the next step. Keeping that loop simple as Maths Angel adds features is the operational job, and it is harder than adding more.

Lexie's background and qualifications

Lexie holds an MSc in Business Administration (Corporate Development) from the University of Cologne, where she finished in the top-performing cohort. She also has a BSc in Management from Sun Yat-sen University, where she was in the top 5% of her year.

Before Maths Angel, she gained experience in strategy and operations at DP DHL Group, Alibaba International and Accenture Germany, then worked as a senior commercial strategist in the customer success team at a German tech startup. She scored 710 on the GMAT, with a perfect quantitative score. That quantitative strength is part of why the maths side of the product gets scrutinised as hard as the design side. Her professional record is public on LinkedIn.

How strategy shapes the product

A consultant's instinct is to cut what does not earn its place, and that is the discipline Lexie brings to a learning product. The risk for any EdTech tool is feature creep: more buttons and menus for a stuck student to make sense of. She pushes the other way, towards fewer decisions on screen and a faster route out of “I don't get this”.

Today she leads a lean team of top talent in central London. That same strategic discipline is a big reason Maths Angel has grown fast and now reaches students aged 10 to 16 across the UK, US, Australia, Canada, Singapore and beyond, with a community of 50,000+ followers across TikTok and Instagram.

The passion behind Maths Angel

Ask Lexie why she is doing this and she does not begin with technology. She begins with a child stuck on a question late at night, with no one to ask. The best maths help has always gone to families who can pay for it: a private tutor at the kitchen table, the kind that costs £50 an hour or more. Most children never get that, and it has nothing to do with how hard they try.

What Lexie wants is to leave behind something bigger than herself:

A trusted standard for secondary maths, for every student in the world.

She is building Maths Angel to put that same one-to-one support within reach of any student, not only the ones whose parents can afford it. The work she has set herself is to use technology to give each child the kind of individual help a good tutor would. She knows it is a long road, and she is determined to keep going, lesson by lesson, until every child who gets stuck has somewhere to turn.

Meet the rest of the team

Everything students learn on Maths Angel is made in-house by a team of top talent, never outsourced. Alongside Lexie, Alex Pham is CEO, and An-Nam Pham is CTO, leading all technical execution to keep the experience safe, stable and fast. You can meet the whole team on the Maths Angel about page.

Or see it for yourself: the Courses and ChatCat work together as one curriculum-aligned private tutoring experience through the learning journey, ready to back a student the moment they get stuck, like an angel.
